MELVINDALE, Mich., April 7, 2024 — Evans Distribution Systems, a full-service third-party logistics (3PL) provider of warehousing, transportation, fulfillment, value-added, and staffing solutions, has activated 378,000-square-feet of additional warehouse space in Allen Park and Detroit, as a General Purpose Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) No. 70. These multi-client facilities are well-positioned to support international cargo from Canada with direct access to rail yards and Port of Detroit.

A Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) is a special economic zone in the U.S. where imported goods can be stored, distributed, processed, and used without being subject to customs duties. Customs duties and excise taxes are due only at the time when goods are transferred out of the FTZ.

Since 1987, Evans has operated Foreign Trade Zone facilities. Sitting on one of the busiest border crossings between the U.S. and Canada, the zones are very beneficial to Canadian partners and any U.S. business that relies on foreign trade.
“FTZs don’t eliminate fees but it provides extra time and cash flow to businesses thereby reducing production delays and supporting our economies,” says Evans.
